Topic: Getting Resistors (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic



I'm trying to get some more resistors for my projects. I asked Mouser.com for the correct item, and they gave me this link:


But these are over $2.00 each. I wanted to get several to play around with for projects. That just seems like a really high price. I was wondering if the resistors should cost that much, or if there are different resistors that would work with my projects.

I tried to order 50 of these, and it was well over $100. The starter kit was cheaper than that, and it includes a ton of components. So I'm thinking these are designed for some high-end projects.

I'm new to this hobby, so I'm not sure what the normal price is for resistors.

I checked out some more and these resistors are only 4 cents when I get 100 of them, so I'm not sure what the difference is between them.

Wow, not sure what's up with the first resistors you linked.  I don't see any justification for the price.

You don't say what these resistors are for, and that is important to understand.

If they're for low-voltage use, current-limiting resistors for LEDs, etc, then the second link will be just fine.

I've been using these for low-voltage, low-power applications:

I prefer the smaller size (1/8W) because they take up less space on a circuit board, but I do sometimes have to put them under a magnifier to read the color code (too many birthdays).

Sorry I didn't say what they were for. I really don't have anything specific in mind. I just started this, and I'm working my way through the starter kit. I wanted to get some extra parts so I can play around with the code, and make some other projects of my own.

Also, it's mainly because I like to keep the projects together so I remember how to make them. I don't like taking one project apart, just so I can use the components for another project.

I'm probably just going to buy some more LEDs and buttons, and get some other sensors that are compatible with the Arduino to make random things with. Everything I make will be on a breadboard. I doubt I will get into anything too complicated for a while, until I learn how things work. I plan on running everything with a 9V battery.

I thought about using the LED display I got to make a clock, or maybe something to tell the room temperature.

I'll try the resistors you suggested. They are a little more reasonably priced just for little test projects.
