Running the ide without Board

Hi,

My arduino board is not installed, but i downloaded the IDE ,when i try to run the IDE it does not start.Only the splash screen appears for few second and then nothing happens? .Do i need to insatll the driver before running the IDE or there is some other problem??

No it's not because drivers are not installed.. What's your operating system ?

No not correct. The IDE will run without a board being plugged into the PC, so driver installation is not an issue. You can then load example sketches and press Verify to compile the sketch, or even write your own. You just can't upload a sketch unless a board is plugged in and has it's proper driver installed.

So you have some other problem if the IDE will not open properly. Perhaps delete you existing installation and try to download and reinstate again.
