Topic: Make HC SR04 water resistant (Read 12102 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi,

I'm working on a project for measure the water level of my underground tank. I'm using HC SR04 ultrasonic sensor for the measurement, now I've think that inside the tank the humidity will be very high, so how can I make water proof the sensor? From what I understand the ultrasonic sensors can't be covered,someone has tried it? Thanks

Hi, i am looking for a moisture resistant HCSR04 ultrasonic sensor to measure water level in a tank, did anyone solve this problem?? Which one of the Futurlec water resistant capsule are ok to change with the original one? US1440 model should be right..?

Maby a parking sensor can be used. Or this.

If you look at DIY methods, you should cover the two cans with a protective material with thickness=1/2 wavelength.
Knowing that the frequency of the device is 40kHz, your solution would be a Plexiglas plate of 2.125cm

Were you ever able to replace the transmitter and receivers with waterproof/resistant ones successfully?
If so which ones did you use?

Doing similar project .. so same problem.

Not going to work at all.  You have no understanding of ultrasound in air.

[ the acoustic impedance of air and a solid is about 4 orders of magnitude different, any diaphragm
must is very thin indeed to have low enough mass not to just 100% reflect ]

I habe a IBC tank outside with on top of that a terra cotta plants pot upside down and in the my sensor.

That works pretty good for about a year now

I also have a water tank with the sensor mounted on its top screw cover facing the water. It works for about  a year before he connecrions get oxidised from the moisture and some wire gets disconnected.  Then i have to replace it.

I now plan a similar approach to monitor water level in my pool reservoir balancing tank.  In this case however the sensor might actually come in contact with water so waterproofing is needed.

I have the pot lifted up for about 2 cm for a bit of ventilation. But if it will come in contact with water i gues i just have to look for some more expensive waterproof modules

Yes. I did. but they did not work. i could hear the vibrating sound on the sensor but the reading it was giving was not correct. This is probably due to that these sensors work on 12v . Anyhow , did you find any solution to that because humidity just kills this sensor.!

Oops,  after a couple of months of service also my ultrasonic device gave up on me. The little dish inside the speakers came loose and messed everything up.

Ordered a waterproof one now,  works like a charm

@Bringamosa how did you use waterproof sensor? Can you tell how you connected those waterproof sensor to a board and code?

I used the example code
With HCSR04 we have board for sensor. How did you make board for waterproof sensor? Did you use JSNSR04 2.0 or made your own board with waterproof sensors?
