Topic: Getting an error message when testing Blink (Read 2090 times) previous topic - next topic

Hello everyone,

New to Arduino here. I've got a UNO board, I've installed the IDE, got the board hooked up, but when I test the blink feature e.g. upload it I get an error message. I'm pretty sure I've set the right board and the right port.

Below is the error report. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Arduino: 1.6.3 (Windows 8.1), Board: "Arduino Uno"

c:/program files (x86)/arduino/hardware/tools/avr/bin/../lib/gcc/avr/4.8.1/../../../../avr/lib/avr5/crtm328p.o:(.init9+0x0): undefined reference to `main'

collect2.exe: error: ld returned 1 exit status

Error compiling.

Okay so I reinstalled Arduino IDE don't think it installed right. I now get a problem uploading to the board. Message below.

Arduino: 1.6.3 (Windows 8.1), Board: "Arduino Uno"

Sketch uses 1,030 bytes (3%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32,256 bytes.

Global variables use 9 bytes (0%) of dynamic memory, leaving 2,039 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2,048 bytes.

The USB interface is not talking.
Try the Loopback Test at the top of this forum. Check the Device Manager and make the port shows with not ! over it - if so, fix the USB driver problem.

I switched to a different USB cable and got it to work, looks like there's a problem with the other cable.

Not the first person to report bad USB cables. There exist "charging only" cables, and there also exist cables that are simply of sub-standard manufacture.
