i bought an arduino a month ago i got an error message so i posted a forum topic about it that can be seen here nothing helped so i sent support@arduino.cc an email i tried what he said but that didn't work so i emailed him back and i haven't heard back so i bought another arduino it worked then it stopped working and i got this error message

i just reloaded the firmware for the 8u2 and it still doesn't work

Enable "Show verbose output during compilation" in File>Preferences.
Do you have the right COM port chosen?
Does the Arduino show up in Device Manager?

Well, if the loopback test isn't working, that means your USB-to-serial chip is broken. Did you try the loopback test with the serial monitor or with something else? If you don't already have PuTTY, I have attached it.

Just ignore it. It was in case you didn't have a terminal application(stupid mistake)
If the port is showing up but it is not echoing anything back, again, make sure you have the right port chosen, and maybe temporarily remove the ATMega. Try it again.
