i tried connecting an arduino uno on my mac and it doesn't even show up the serial port. i tried installing the ftdi drivers also but didn't work so please help me out

CrossRoads

Uno doesn't use FTDI driver, it uses Atmega16U2 programmed as USB/Serial interface.
Check the chip next to the USB connector - what does it have marked on it?

Sorry, I'm not a Mac user. I don't know what this means

avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "/dev/cu.wchusbserial1410": No such file or directory
ioctl("TIOCMGET"): Inappropriate ioctl for device

other than perhaps you have a driver problem.

What ports actually show up in your "port" menu.  The name there implies an unofficial Arduino derivative using a CH340G usb/serial chip, rather than a genuine arduino.   You'll have to install the CH340G drivers, which apparently requires some special steps if you're running Yosemite or later.  See http://kiguino.moos.io/2014/12/31/how-to-use-arduino-nano-mini-pro-with-CH340G-on-mac-osx-yosemite.html

But I'm not sure how you'd see that device name at all, if you hadn't had the driver installed at some point.

Searching for "ch340g" might find you additional info.
