Topic: Using LedControl lib to address individual leds on a matrix w/out overwriting (Read 585 times) previous topic - next topic

I am trying to build a new project (in complexity way above what I have built so far) that uses a lot of I/O and multiplexing and having an issue with the Output this far.

There is input data from multiple (4 to be exact) MUX CD74HC4067 breakout boards and each variable should turn on/off individual pixels on a 8x8 Led chip driven by a MAX7219 chip. I am trying to adopt LedControl library from http://playground.arduino.cc/Main/LedControl

The problem here is to figure out how to address individual pixels without having the whole matrix updated (re-addressed). Alternatively perhaps there is a better way to organize my input data in a matrix form that more easily translates into 8x8 output? Currently I am writing a (very messy) draft code that uses 64 variables, that are being read one at a time.

EDIT: Also here is the library I am using to read each CD74HC4067, while cycling enable pin between the four chips. https://github.com/mikedotalmond/Arduino-Mux-CD74HC4067

Google is useless this time as it keeps producing a million examples of basic application of LedControl library. Any guidance will be appreciated. Thank you for reading my post!

we would have to read minds if we had to guess what you are doing in your code so that we can help you organize it better.

Sounds like you need to slow down and organize your thoughts.
have you seen http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=261445.0

If you realize you are writing messy code, I don't think it is fair for you to expect others to rewrite it.

Thanks for your engagement. LarryD I noted the thread. It may be useful moving forward, however I have hit a roadblock on another front. The CD74HC4067 module would not cooperate to accurately read different analog sources.

With regards to ieee488 link, this is the exact link that I already posted above that i couldn't quite figure out before posting it here. I am not sure why you gave me the same link?

The library has the capability to individually address LEDs which is what you wrote you wanted.

What can't you figure out ?  ?  ?

Again, we can't read minds. Either post your code or don't waste our time.
