I am using Windows 10.  IDE 1.6.11 will not compile (example) sketch "Blink" unless I restart Windows.

Here is the verbose version of the error messages.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks! Roger

To test I loaded IDE v 1.0.6.  Sketches Compile and Upload OK.

Hi - I had the same type of error - here is how I solved it.

1. Make sure your Java is up to date - go to www.java.com
2. I downloaded the newest Arduino software.
3. In Windows - go to user accounts and settings. Create a new user for Windows and make sure it has administrator permissions. I called my new user account Arduino. Log in with the new desktop.

Any error messages I had went away.

Easier way than setting up a new account is to "run as administrator" google it.
Note that this is ABOVE a user with admin rights.

That allows you to run programs as a normal user but some programs as FULL admin as you choose.
It may not be the answer you were looking for but its the one I am giving based on either experience, educated guess, google or the fact that you gave nothing to go with in the first place so I used my wonky crystal ball.

This issue is different from the original one in this thread.
Open device manager in Windows, when your Arduino is not attached. Having the device manager open plug the Arduino in. Tell us, what happens, when you do this. I suspect you get an unkown usb device with yellow exclamation mark.

That means that a suitable driver is missing. But before we go om, what happens when you plug in the USB cable of the Arduino?
Before you ask:
Did you really read and understand How to use this forum ?
AND:
Do you have already some solution or is a part of the problem sitting in front of the screen?  :)
