Topic: Screen Keeps Freezing (Read 767 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi,

Whenever I plug my Me Orion board into my computer the computer screen freezes leaving me with no control. At that point I have to restart the computer by physically pushing the power button. During the restart I unplug the USB cable, and once it has finished restarting the computer functions normally.  I reset the Me Orion board, but there is no change, it keeps freezing my computer screen.  Any ideas on why this might be happening.

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew what this error meant, or how to fix it.

System wide configuration file is "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\ArduinoLLC.ArduinoIDE_1.8.6.0_x64__mdqgnx93n4wtt\hardware\tools\avr/etc/avrdude.conf"

         Using Port                    : COM3
         Using Programmer              : arduino
         Overriding Baud Rate          : 115200
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\\.\COM3": Access is denied.

CrossRoads

On my laptop, COM3 is the USB hub for all the ports.

Is COM3 the port that opens on yours when you plug an Arduino in?
If you look at Tools:Port, does another COM port show up when your Arduino is plugged in?

Yes, COM3 is the port that opens when I connect my Arduino. No other ports are listed under Tools:Port

If you look in Device Manager, is it listed there as well?
No ! over it?

It is listed under the ports section in the device manager.

Have you restarted your computer?

I restart my computer after the computer starts acting up.(Which happens every time I plug the USB cable into the computer). It makes no difference.

Perhaps the Orion is drawing too much USB power and the computer is not handling it well?
My Lenovo Thinkpad senses USB overcurrent and shuts the port down and reports a power surge error. Have to restart the laptop to clear it. Has also happened when external 5V supply backdrives the USB supply line, so I have an FTDI extender cable now with the 5V line set up to be disconnected, and have started putting in back-feed prevention diodes in designs as well.

Thanks, that partially fixed the problem.

I am now getting an error:

I have no clue what this means!

Got a link to the Orion board?
Is it 328P equipped?
Is it loaded with a bootloader?
What board type are you selecting when attempting to download?

It is supposed to be a Arduino Uno duplicate. Previously it has worked flawlessly, today it has started to act up for no apparent reason.

Are you selecting Uno as the board type?
With this speed
Overriding Baud Rate          : 57600
I would suspect not. I'm pretty sure Uno use 115200 for serial download.

Schematic also shows a CH340G for the USB interface, do you have the drivers downloaded for that?
