I'm a bit confused. Is it really OK to power the GSM shield through the Arduino Uno?

By design it looks like I'm supposed to connect it to the Uno and supply 1A to the DC input.

However, I'm looking at the schematic for the GSM and it seems to generate it's own 3.3v supply from the Uno 5v pin. In doing so, it will rely on the Uno regulator to supply that current and I am worried that it will not be able to cope.

It feels to me as if the GSM2 board should have used Vin and that I would be better off using my own 5V switching regulator connected to 5v.
