I have just completed the assembly of this kit for my son who is new to this and he has tried to upload the initial instruction from the library to make the car go and we receive this error message?

Arduino: 1.8.5 (Windows 10), Board: "Arduino/Genuino Uno"

Sketch uses 2282 bytes (7%) of program storage space. Maximum is 32256 bytes.
Global variables use 212 bytes (10%) of dynamic memory, leaving 1836 bytes for local variables. Maximum is 2048 bytes.
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\\.\COM1": The system cannot find the file specified.

Problem uploading to board.  See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

This report would have more information with
"Show verbose output during compilation"
option enabled in File -> Preferences.

Can anyone help us?
Thanks

You need to select the correct COM port. It won't be COM1. In the IDE open Tools / Port and select the one that isn't greyed out.

So, why didn't you?
