Topic: Arduino Wifi Rev2 static IP not working, firmware ? (Read 131 times) previous topic - next topic

I recently bought this board: https://store.arduino.cc/usa/arduino-uno-wifi-rev2
I do not have a lot of hardware or software experience so this topic of updating firmware is challenging for me, and not even sure if that is the problem.

the samples "WiFi Web Server LED Blink" worked fine but now I am trying to assign a static IP.
There seems to be lots of known issues/problems assigning a static IP in the WINFINA library.

https://github.com/arduino-libraries/WiFiNINA/issues?q=is%3Aissue+is%3Aclosed

I am using windows 10, Arduino IDE 1.8.5
under Sketch, include Libraries, manage libraries WiFiNINA it shows I have 1.3.0 installed

when I load the sample sketch WiFi Web Server LED Blink and open the serial monitor it shows this:

firmwareVersion: 1.0.0
Attempting to connect to Network named: linksys24
SSID: linksys24
IP Address: 192.168.2.106
signal strength (RSSI):-42 dBm
To see this page in action, open a browser to http://192.168.2.106  (which fails)

based on reading various threads I have tried inserting this line:  WiFi.config(IPAddress(192, 168, 2, 106));
before and after this: status = WiFi.begin(ssid, pass);
also tried inserting this before server.begin();
WiFi.setDNS(IPAddress(192, 168, 2, 106));

when I try and ping 192.168.2.106 it returns a completely different IP - wierd ?

Pinging 192.168.2.106 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.2.183: Destination host unreachable.

a lot of threads seems to suggest the board needs a firmware update ?
I tried to follow this thread to update the firmware but not sure this is even the right firmware ?

on my wifi rev 2 board the wifi chip says model: NINA W102 if that helps

the link above says to do this:

Open the WiFiNINA Firmware Updater example sketch: File -> Examples -> WiFiNINA -> Tools -> FirmwareUpdater
Upload the sketch onto your board. (worked)
If the Serial Monitor is open, close it.
Launch the "WiFi 101 / NINA Firmware Updater" from the Tools menu of the IDE
this shows WINC1501 Model B (19.5.2)  - not sure what this means ???
Select the Serial Port for your board. The latest version of firmware for the NINA will be automattically selected.
Click the "Update Firmware" button, and wait for the update to complete.
