Running Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS
Installed Arduino with the UBUNTU software install program
Installed python 2.7 with apt

My sketch compiles ok and when I upload to an OTA port I get asked for a board password but this is not accepted and an error appears.

java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "python": error=2, No such file or directory

Do I need a symlink somewhere or is there another step I missed.

It seems the problem is with the snap format which is self-contained and presumably does not allow communication with other processes.
The fix is to uninstall the snap version and install the downloaded version from arduino.cc.
The compile times in linux are literally at least two orders of magnitude faster than windows, amazing!
