Would arduino work some other robotic part? Like if I had a bunch of parts from Arduino and one from another company, would my project still function?

Of course it could.
The art of getting good answers lies in asking good questions.

In almost every case there would be no problems at all.

But there are some "other companies" who work hard to make sure that you can't easily use their parts with anything other than things that they sell. So specific examples are important.

That's the beauty of Arduino, because it has analog and digital inputs and outputs, serial interface, I2C interface and probably other systems of communication, it will interface with many different components.  Sometimes voltage is an issue, such as 3.3 vs 5 volts, and some sort of converter or voltage drop is required to protect one device or the other.
