Does having individual Signal pins mean that you don't have to connect pins to Arduino Ports for digital pins
Unless you say what sort of shield you have, and preferably post a link to it, there is no way of telling for sure.
G and V are common to all pins. The S is the same electrical connection to the pin that corresponds to the Digital/Analog that is labelled near the at the GVS header. You can easily check this with a continuity tester (ohm meter).
It's literally called "sensor shield."
