Topic: Where to place the resistor - before or after the LED (Read 208 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi there! I've just finished the second project in the starter kit and I have a question:
On the first project, we put the resistor before the LED, but on the second project, we put it after the LED. If we put the resistor after the LED it won't (supposedly) burn out it with the full 5v?

It makes no difference. So long as the resistor is in series with the LED you'll be fine. It's there to limit the current so it's the value of the resistance that counts not where it is in the circuit.

Hello,
Welcome to the forum.

It might be useful if you learned about Kirchoff's laws, they are relevant to what you are asking and fundamental to basic electronics.

The circuit sees a resistor in series with an LED - exactly the same in both cases (unless operating at
microwave frequencies, in which case all sorts of other concerns come into the picture).

With simple circuits there is no "before" or "after", only "series" and "parallel".
