Topic: Replace SerialMonitor with HyperTerminal/Putty/... (Read 580 times) previous topic - next topic

Hello, I am a newbie. Is there a way to replace Arduino's "SerialMonitor" with a more powerful app such as HyperTerminal (HT) or Putty? I want to easily capture a serial I/O stream to a file. HT and Putty have a simple logging option whereas "SerialMonitor" does not. I just need to save some 10k bytes from a serial I/O for analysis by Excel. Can anyone help?

You don't need to replace anything, just don't open the serial monitor, and run your serial program, opening the correct serial port. I use PUTTY my self, as I prefer this to the built in monitor.

RealTerm is my choice under Windows. Command line invocation even allows to suppress the usual auto-reset feature of the Arduino.
If you understand an example, use it.
