I used to be very active with an astronomy group and we loved dobsonian telescopes. I'm sure you could easily adapt this for an alt azimuth mount. Keep up the good work, my favorite is the Orion nebula.
i've made a dobsonian telescope based on a 300/1500 skywatcher newton.
here 2 youtube videos of the project:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZkdU0HFKLonow i'm on an ARDUINO heavy GOTO mount for the 300/1500 newton ( dobsonian mount is a provisory mount to be able to use the newton until the heavy mount is ready .)
the overal idea of the project is to use an ARDUINO uno with SD card reader to have the NGC objects coordinates fille, connected to 2 NEMA 23 stepper motors through CNC drivers and using an I2C Human/machine interface with matrix keyboard + Joystick + LCD screen.
the hardware and software interface is working, now i have to achieve the mechanical parts .
