Topic: Buttonbox with 12-position Rotary Switch (Read 406 times) previous topic - next topic

Hello,

I have made a buttonbox with the following diagram.
As you can see in the image this has 25 buttons and 4 rotary encoders:
(each rotary encoder show up as another 2 buttons when turning left or right)



This buttonbox shows up as a gaming device in Windows without any additional software:



Now i want te replace 2 of the rotary encoders with 2 rotary switches.
The rotary switches will have 12 positions and are wired up like this:



Each resistor has a 1kOhm value.
So when i switch from position 1 to position 2 on the switch i get an analog value of about 200.
Switch 3 will have a value of 300 and so on...


Now i want for every position of the rotary switch a button in the game device.
So if i switch to position 3 the button in Windows switches on for 0.5 seconds, when i select position 4 it swichtes on another button for 0.5 seconds and so on...

As long as i dont switch to another position alle the buttons are OFF.
Only when i select another position the correct button is switched ON for 0.5sec.

I want to change the code that i have below:


-Anyone who can help me with this as i have no idea how to start?
-What is the maximum buttons windows will recognice as a game device? (without additional software)
-Will this be possible?

If necessary i want to sacrifice some buttons if needed.

You can start by understanding that ALL rotary switches do not make an instant connection to the next position as you rotate the switch. Most rotary switches OPEN the circuit between positions. A few special ones actually retain the old connection until after the new connection is made.

You can actually test this before you go any further by using your Ohmmeter with the rotary switch you are going to use. There may be software changes that you can implement to allow for the switching times.
