Help with measuring the width of a filament, with an accuracy of 0,01 mm

I am having problems with ideas on how would i measure the width of a filament with a decent accuracy, first i wanted a tof sensor, but the 1mm error is too much, then i thought of interfacing a digital caliper with an arduino, but the filament would have to go through the caliper which probably won't work, so are there any ideas you can recommend to me on how to do this?

Digital dial guage, teflon guides for filament to run through?  Dial guages are spring-loaded.
