Topic: ATMegaXXXX + ATinyXX Board Drivers not at the same time possible? (Read 846 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi, I wanted to use 2 boards:  ATMega16 and ATiny85.

The problem:

if I install the Board support for ATMegaXXXX Chips, then the ATinyXX Chips are gone in the "Boards" List.

And if I install the Board support for ATinyXX Chips, then the ATMegaXXXX Chips are gone in the "Boards" List.

How I can hold both in the list, because I don't want to install the other boards if I load another Sktech for another board :-)

I'm using the newest Arduino IDE (1.8.12) + MacOS.

How are you doing the installation?

If you install via board manager or manual install by extracting the manual installation version of the board package into the hardware folder inside your sketchbook it should "just work"

If you are following some old (obsolete) installation guide that involves modifying files in the arduino installation folder, instead of sketchbook/hardware folder or using boards manager, thats the only thing I can think of that could result in things like that.

Board manager

You're sure it's not just that there are enough entries in the boards menu that it's scrolling? (There will be little arrows at the top and bottom of tools -> board menu in that case - scroll wheel on your mouse while mouse above opened tools -> board menu will also work)

Yes (take a look at the picture in the attachment)

There is nothing to scroll...

Can you open Files->Preferences and take a screenshot for us please?

Here it is:

I'm thinking that there might possibly be a problem with how you've saved the links to the two different cores- I should have asked, in between switching which core you're using (TinyCore or MegaCore) are you changing anything in the 'Additional Board Manager URLs' field?

Yes sure. To install the other Boards I have to change the link in Additional Board Manager URLs field. And then... the other Boards are gone :-)

So, I can only have one type of Boards, ATiny or Atmega16 :-)

Im using these URLs:

ATmega16: https://github.com/mcudude/MightyCore

ATiny: http://highlowtech.org/?p=1695

The good news is, that is very easy to fix. Open File -> Prefences again, and hit the button here:

It will bring up this dialog box:

Where you can put multiple different URLs, one on each line.

For the ATTiny range you should definitely use TinyCore.

Omg :-) Thanks!

I didn't know that this is possible ;-)

Working  :D
