I recently found that you can change the color schemes  of the Arduino IDE, or in other words assign different "Themes". I made this topic so I can make programming a bit better and more interesting. I will slowly upload different themes and I will also put up a tutorial. hopefully I will get you all to start making themes and posting them! To get the theme to work you will have to replace the theme.txt:

Arduino.app/Contents/Resources/Java/lib/theme/theme.txt

with the theme.txt I or someone else will post here. You will also have the option of replacing the preferences.txt:

Arduino.app/Contents/Resources/Java/lib/preferences.txt

with the one provided here if you want to change the text color too. Have fun coding!

Yes I plan on using that feature in my next theme, thanks for showing intrest though! I was wondering do you have some experience in this? I'm new at customizing the IDE and wondering if you can help.

A bit of experience, mainly a few hours playing. In a previous job we had to make devices section 508 compliant to be able to sell to US government. In short 508 makes devices accessible for disabled. Things included were colour schemes for (partial) colour blind,  Braille Buttons and switches, voice feedback, for blind, adjustable height control panels, voice control, visual alarms etc.

Creating a IDE theme with a target audience in mind e.g. colour blind would give your effort focus and you can verify you reached the goal.
Three forms of colour blindness come in mind:
- red green - most common ==> 7-10% of men (females < 1%)
- blue yellow - rare ( < 1%)
- complete colour blindness  or monochromacy - even more rare

Another IDE theme could be the night view. In astronomy lot of apps have a sort of red-mode as this would put less strain on their eyes so the do not (less) need to adjust to the dark and see the stars. All those astronomy people programming their telescope SW outside in the dark ;)

What kind of help are you looking for?

A nuby question please.  I have looked at a lot of these questions but can not find any reference to finding or identifying the default theme called in the IDE Preferences.

I have down loaded several of the predefinded themes but don't know how to call them or exchange them for the default.

Thanks for your time. Rudy

sorry for taking your time. I found it in the arduino installation folder.

No response needed.
