I wanted a way to easily turn lights on and off, have it wireless controlled, have no computer running, and have the price as low as possible.

To accomplish this, I instead used an arduino duemilanove with an ethernet shield and 433 MHz RF sender, it then sends a message to an arduino with a matching receiver, and changes the pin set in the message.

And it got no ethernet shield on either, and this isn't the sender.

On the picture you can see the receiver, which is a nano with the 433 MHz receiver module connected.

The relay board is just the cheapest I could find on eBay, it says 1982A on it, but there are a few different versions which all basically do the same. Would be too expensive if I made them myself, and these are even opto isolated from the arduino and with a current limiting resistor on the relay board too.

Very nice!  I always cringe when opening home automation related threads on this board for fear of seeing another example where a user has thrown together something with duct tape, inappropriate wiring, no grounding, and tapped it directly into mains voltage.

Was pleasantly surprised to see that this was NOT one of those projects :)  Nice clean build.

What is the red breakout board in the picture?  Power supply?

Yes, it is a variable switch mode power supply.

The power supply in my garage door opener is driving it, but it is giving out 24V, so I had to use something else than a 7812 ;)
