My understanding so far is that 12V is a lot easier to use in larger projects. ¨

My Xmas displays use 12V strings and I recently plugged in 500 LEDs and you can't see any color change over the length.

The WS2811 chip is a 5V device and the 12V power gives it much more latitude for long runs.

Regards to an test on Youtube the max length without seeing any light difference is 4-5 strings (200-250 LEDS) with full brightness. (12V).
