I use a normal resistor (carbon layer), and their temperature coefficient is less than their absolute error (+- 5%).. and 5% is not a problem.


I asking to myself a question: how can do a cordless phone, with a nimh battery, read approx the level of energy? I would like do the same.. :|


The point being is that the parameters they use are specifically tied to the chemistry of the battery. Even batteries of the same chemical type have different characteristics depending on the mechanical construction. Having said that the battery characteristics change slowly over time and the number of charge cycles so these sorts of charge indicator are never particular accurate anyway. It's like the range indicator you get in some cars nowadays, a rough indication only.
