At least 10 years. I'm not a C programmer, but the subset (superset?) I need for Arduino has got me through. I was amused when Microchip absorbed Atmel: I've been doing PIC RISC even longer!

Actually, in this neck of the (back)woods, 'every participant wins' is the mantra; that's what I was referring to. So, you don't have winners, runners up, and losers, you have "participants".

Reminds me of when my kid got a "runner up" badge for the middle school Science Fair. I was really impressed until I looked around and realized that everyone except the winners got the same badge!
