12 volt Power supply

I know similar questions have been asked a thousand times on the Arduino forum. However, I have not been able to find an answer that satisfies my particular case.

I want ot run both a 12v motor (10a) and an arduino uno off of the same 12v battery (I am using a 10amp motor shield to protect the Uno).

My question is, to do this can I simply have the two running in parallel?

If I do is there a chance that the current created by the motor could blow out the Uno, or would it be safe?

I'm fairly new to this, so any help would be appreciated, even if it is simply pointing me to a forum where this subject has already been discussed.

Thank you,

Yes.

No. The current to the motor would not pass through the Arduino.

or would it be safe?

Yes.

Thank you for your reply
