I saw on the Arduino Uno page that the Arduino Uno can have input voltage between 7 and 12 Volts.
Only when you apply the voltage to the power in jack or the Vin pin. This is then regulated down to 5V.
If you put anything over 6V on an arduino pin you will fry it.
Time to get a new one and don't do it again.
