I've had a project running for about 4 years It has a motion sensor on it so the display only turns on when someone walks by. Now you can only view the display from the side. If viewing straight on all you see is the little dots on each of the 16 squares. Does this mean the LCD display is on its way out
Thanks

Have you tried to adjust the contrast?
Did you already try to adjust the trimpot on the back of the I2C shield of the display?
Also check the supply voltage. If the supply voltage to the LCD is low it will dim.
ok never thought about the trim pot. That did the trick. Voltage is the same as it was. Still, should I still have to adjust the trim pot. Something must be happening to the LCD. Should I order a spare
Just another guess. Maybe a oxidized connector, that causes the supply voltage to drop a little bit?
Main supply Voltage, contrast voltage to the Vo pin (which can be adjusted with the pot), and temperature can affect the contrast.
Likely one or more of those has changed.

Unfortunately, it is a long time problem with LCD technology, it will never 100% go away. OLEDs are great for that, they have full brightness over a 180 degree viewing angle.
In my experience, the blue/white ones seem to suffer less from that than the black/green ones...
Thanks guys. The pot seem to do the trick for now.
