16x2 5V LCD does not display anything.

Hello, it's me again!

Today I have bought standard 16x2 text LCD to my Arduino at local electronics shop. Unfortunately it's not working. After wiring it up nothing came up. Even the squares on first line if it's unitialized. (I have the same LCD but with I2C module). I'm using standard Liquid Crystal libs. Do LCD draws without backlight something about ~7mA?

That might be a little on the high side but the data sheet would probably give you an answer instead of an opinion.

So, perhaps you should explain how you have set up the contrast potentiometer, and provide a photograph?
