Does anyone have any knowledge of either one of these TX/RX pairs. I understand the range claims are usually pie in the sky.

The distance is theoretically possible but only with true line of sight conditions.
So it would work for something like controlling a model plane where there is nothing between the
transmitter and the receiver.
Otherwise , in practice with obstructions between the antennas its usually around 100 meters max.
Best Ive ever done is around 150 metres with simple 17 cm whip antennas.
