Perhaps someone can shed some light on this problem or inaccuracy of information.
At https://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/ArduinoMega2560#toc3 it is stated...
"All Arduino and Genuino boards, including this one, work out-of-the-box on the Arduino Web Editor, no need to install anything."
On several computers with different specs but all running Windows 7 the Mega 2560 board would not connect using the Web IDE. Drivers has to be installed by installing the Desktop IDE. Once the drivers were installed the Mega 2560 was identified in the device manager and connected no problem.
Hope this helps others and perhaps someone from Arduino could shed some light on the statement...
