5 Wire Linear Actuator Question

Hi,

I've got a quick question about a 5 wire linear actuator. 3 Wires are for the potentiometer, 2 for each extreme, and 1 for the wiper. I decided to check out the internal potentiometer to make sure it's working correctly. When measuring the resistance of each extreme, the resistance changes based on the position of the rod. Shouldn't the resistance only change when measuring the wiper resistance, and the two extremes should be 10kOhm at all times?

Thanks,
Mike

Some linear actuators use encoders instead of pots. You sure your actuator has a pot?

I don't understand this.

There are three possible resistance measurements between three terminals of a potentiometer. Two of the measurements should change as the actuator extends and the other should be constant.

Have you correctly identified the wiper wire?
