I'm Working on a client's project and he wants to use 5GHz wifi module to send the data to his server.
I suggested him to use 2.4GHz as it is enough but he is keen on using 5GHz wifi.
I searched for almost 2 hours on the net but not able to find any 5 GHz wifi module which can be used with any microcontroller (Arduino,8051, AVR, etc)
Do you have any idea where I can find such WiFi module or any advice would help.
The downsides of this, besides the price, is that they don't seem to yet have an Arduino library to support it, and it seems to want an external antenna tuned for that band. I see that the 5 GHz band can have some benefits such as less congestion and more channels and perhaps shorter range (depending on cable loss vs antenna gain) and was actually asking Google to find me a solution.
The library might be able to be derived from some ESP8266 library as they both use the AT commands, but I am not able to take on this project right now.
Thank you, friend, I looked into this and it is really easy with all the AT commands but again as you mentioned the price is the issue and another is that it works on 802.11 n protocol and that client want 802.11 ac which is way more faster.
As mentioned before the main big advantage of 5GHz is the band is not so crouded and more imune to interference. Another thing is that is not hackable. About the congestion of 2.4 believe, in some places (builds of apartments) could be a big nightmare to have a 2.4G radio stable..
Here is another module about the same prices of the other mentioned before.
But 5GHz Wifi is reduced to almost 0 by a single wall. And yes, I'm European so I mean concrete wall
And there is no such thing as not hackable And as far as I know there is no real difference between 2,4GHz and 5GHz in security. But correct me if I'm wrong.
