5x7 led matrix shield

Hi,

3 days ago i managed to connect a 5x7 led matrix to my arduino
(see http://www.local-guru.net/blog/2009/04/03/5x7-led-matrix-on-my-arduino)

now i managed to solder it to a prototype-shield

looks far more professional now (well, as long as noone looks at the wires on the back  )

i just left a comment on your blog too... i like how the shape and size format like matches the perspective ratio of the shield space... it's quite "aesthetic" to me... anyway, i'm hunting for similar led matrices, too, for a little project i'm building. thanks!

Haven't you used any resistors on the display? Running 5v through the LEDs with the amount of current they require [I think you're using a Kingbright module, which requires very low current] will shorten their life and could possibly cause an emission of magic blue smoke!

Just something to consider

hi,
it is a knightbright module and i didn't use any resistors because im a complete electronic noob

tnx for your tipp

No problem, the tutorial on direct connection to Arduino doesn't use them (in the diagrams) but says that they should be used; a bit confusing and not best practice really!

Any news on this shield... I am thinking of doing an 8x16 matrix shield soon with two 8x8 matrices and I was wondering how this one's going...
