6-pin Servo?

Hello,

For my project I wanted to turn my old RC Truck into a arduino controlled vehicle. I have taken it apart and have 3 parts, the back wheels with a motor, the front wheels that have a 6-pin servo and lastly the part that connects both the front wheels and the back wheels together and holds the now-removed microcontroller and the battery, also removed. My only question is, how would i connect the 6-pin servo to the arduino?

Those are sometimes not real servo motors, just a DC motor and a potentionmeter feedback. The control for the servo motors and everything else is done in a single controller.

I agree; a photo of the steering "servo" (or whatever it is) would be very helpful.

The strange thing is the six "pins" - a motor and pot would only require 5 pins; so either the extra pin isn't hooked up, or it is something else (for instance, a DC motor - 2 pins - and 3 locator switches - one common and 3 other leads).

It definitely isn't a real servo, likely. But it could be made into one (using the Arduino) - hook the potentiometer or switches to the Arduino, and control the motor using a motor driver of some sort, then have software to control the motor and turn it on/off/change direction as needed, until the proper position (as reported by the pot or switches) is reached.

Thanks for the photo. It is still a mystery to me. It could be a servo without controller inside, or a special made servo. Can you see a brand or type on the servo ?

Do you have a multimeter ? The potentiometer would be easy to find when that has seperate wires to the connector.

Got in, found more screws to get out so here is the thing. I guess it is a motor, maybe a potentiometer

Perfect photo, that is indeed a servo motor without the controller inside.

The position is set to the potentionmeter and that can be read by the Arduino.
However, to make the motor turn in both directions, you need an H-bridge. You can not control the motor without an H-bridge.

I think it is easier to replace this servo motor with a normal servo motor. The Arduino Servo library can be used to control a normal servo motor, and you don't need the H-bridge.

What does an h bridge look like, i might have one. Although i might just be a switch

This is for a robot so i probably would need an h-bridge anyway

The arduino motor shield wont do the trick?
