64 leds control

Hello,

I'm currently trying to build a board that will show which part of the earth is light/dark. I planned to uses 64 5mm LEDs. My idea is to calculate for each led if the sun is up according to the longitude/latitude with the timelord arduino library.

I'm planning to use the MAX7219 to control the leds. Around 30-40 LEDs should be constantly on. With a new calculus every 5-10 minutes.

Do you think I thought this correctly. Is there any issues I didn't plan ?

Thank you,

No, that looks fine.
I have a little MAX7219 breakout board that would suit this project just fine, with a pair of pins to connect each LED to:
