At what sort of quality, from what sort of storage, to what kind of D-A converter(s), and how much pre-processing are you willing to do?
I suspect you could do 8-channels of voice-quality (64kb or less) audio read from a file that had all 8 channels of data pre-interleaved for quick access, but it wouldn't be very easy...
