8 RFID / NFC readers on one arduino

I am researching for a very special Projekt and have some questions I can't find answers by myself.
Therefore I am searching for some help.

I am a total noob on arduino. I have read various articles and instructions / "instructables" on arduino and now I want to do a project by myself. I have experience in various programming languages, therefore I am considering the programming as the smallest of my problems.

So here are my questions and I would be very happy, if someone around here could answer them.

Thank you in advance!

1.) I want 8 RFID or NFC readers connected to 1 board. Is this doable?

1.a) If this is doable, which arduino SHOULD I use and why?
1.b) If this is doable, which smallest possible arduino COULD I use?
1.c) If this is not doable, how many arduinos would I have to use?

2.) Since this sounds like a very pricy project, is there a possibility to save money? For example by connecting 7 additional antenna to one RFID/NFC-shield?

I am thankful for any help you can provide.

Have a nice day.

Don't even think about connecting extra antennas - it just won't work.

Thank you for your help. Do you have any suggestions, which board to use?
