80 VDC servo motor H bridge controller

This is my first Arduino project, I am trying to spec the hardware. I am using the MEGA platform. I need to drive an "Aerotech 1000DC" permanent magnet servo motor. My original plan was to use an "Advanced motion controls" 12A8E Brush type PWM servo amplifier. (this is what was used with the motors original application) It needs a +/- 10v control signal. output is rated at 80V@12 A. my power supply is 60V @ 10A.
Originally I thought I could control the servo amp directly but as my learning curve progresses I am finding this is the case.
My next thought is to use an H bridge motor shield to interface with it. I am using an "DROK DC Motor Driver L298 Dual H Bridge Motor Speed Controller" to control two other 24 volt motors in this project. would this work if the 24v and 60V switching supplies are isolated or is there a better way to do this? I have not found an off the shelf shield with the specs I need to control this motor.

The ancient, extremely inefficient L298N is one of the worst choices imaginable. It is for tiny, low current (1 Ampere maximum continuous duty) toy motors.

Don't make a fool of yourself. For that industrial servo, buy a matching industrial driver. The servo manufacturer will have recommendations.

Since the "Aerotech 1000DC" appears to be an old product on the surplus market, post a link to the data sheet or photos of the assembly showing all the markings, so that forum members can get a reasonable idea of what you actually have.

Thanks for your input. Advanced Motion controls make an updated version of my servo amp that can be controlled by pwm but at $1k it is not in the budget. The motor is a model 1210 (NEMA Frame size 42) and is currently available.
The other 2 gearmotors I need to drive are 24 v @ 1.68A max. In the current configuration they draw less than .5A with a typical run time of between 15 and 30 seconds. The L298 looked to me to fit my needs

You should be able to control that amplifier with a Mega, 5V logic. in open loop config.

With some additional circuitry you can control the +/-10 driver you have with an Arduino and it won't cost anywhere near $1K

My one experience with a-m-c is that their stuff works incredibly well, but the learning curve is steep. Is there some reason you can't use the 10V servo amp?

It's not too difficult to get a +/-10V signal controlled by an arduino. A bipolar power supply, an opamp and an external DAC will do it.

At its heart, that what this does: Encoder to Resolver – Cedar Lake Instruments It's based on an Arduino Nano, although I haven't built any in a while. If it's an option that you'd like to explore, send me a PM.
