8x8 dot matrix with a single 74HC595N?

Recently i bought an rfid arduino learning kit including a 8x8 dot matrix module, 74HC595N, temperature module and so on.
Is it possible to use that dot matrix module with a single 74HC595N chip? If so i would like a little help with installing and coding it. I have seen projects with direct drive connection and with 2 74HC595 chips connection but got stuck with using a single chip.

If you can use it with a ULN2803, that would be ideal to sink current from the common cathodes while the Arduino drives the anodes thru current limit resistors.
