i have found 2 pieces of code on the internet one arduino the other is processing to directly control an 8x8 led matrix from a computer and it sends the picture/ animation via serial and stores it in the arduinos EEPROM the arduino is connected to a max7219 and a pot to control the speed of animation but it does work there are errors in the code

It is good code that works even though it has errors in it.

You need to show what errors you are getting, I suspect the Matrix libary is not compatable with V 1.0 of the Arduino IDE, but unless you give more information we can't say.
