8x8 Matrix with 74HC595

Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew of a good resource/tutorial for using a couple of 74HC595 shift registers in order to create an 8x8 LED matrix? I've seen some projects using these, but they never seem to explain it very well. So if you happen to have one bookmarked, let me know please!

The last project of this manual: http://www.earthshineelectronics.com/files/ASKManualRev3.pdf

i just finished making one of these with 74HC595's

You are the man! This is awesome. Huge, huge, huge props to you sir! ;D

I sell a 8x8x LED matrix kit (http://timewitharduino.blogspot.com/2009/09/buy-led-matrix-shield-kit.html). You can find schematics and board layout there.

I have just finished led matrix project from this manual: ASKManualRev3.pdf and i have a problem; colomns are rows, and rows are col. image is rotated 90 deg..... sorri for poor english! :-?

Just edit the code so that the row shiftout and the column shiftout are swapped. You may have to invert some bytes.

Thanks for reply! I took code from ASKManualRev3.pdf... can it be for example if i use common anode instead of common cathod matrix? They did not mentioned what tipe of matrix they used in book...
