My name is Mandy. I live and work in Chattanooga Tennessee. I guess you can say I am a woman with ideas but not very savvy with the technical end. I suppose if I took my time and carefully re-studied electronics and computing, I could build such wonderful things as all of you in the forum ... in maybe 50 years!!! LOL.
But I don't want to kill my ideas just because I fumble with electronics. So, I had this crazy idea to simply hire someone(s) to work with me on a project or two. Typically, when you are rich or getting seed money from a venture capitalist, this is an easy answer. But I work for a living and I just want to see an idea or two take flight.
What would be the proper term for someone Woz-like (Steve Wozniak -http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Wozniak/url]) to hire? Someone who works on an Arduino boards (specifically) and connect needed boards and things?
Is the proper term engineer? How would I be able to find and hire someone? What's the usual going rate for work? Forgive me for asking base-level questions. If anyone can offer any advise and poit me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it.
It should be said, I would prefer to work with someone in the United States, if possible.

I would probably say developer is more accurate, but I don't think anyone would scoff at being called an engineer.

Post your project on these forums. Give a general overview of what you're looking to do (with maybe some info on the hardware/software that is being used) and solicit PMs for those that are interested. Those that message you will typically ask some questions to illicit requrirements. Once they have a solid enough understanding, they'll provide you with a quote.

Variance in locality, level of experience and project size, means there really isn't a good answer for this
Some tips:
Know the scope of your're hiring for. Do you want them just to write the code? Should they create a wiring diagram that you can use to hook-up everything yourself? Should they create a fully functional prototype and ship it to you?
Make sure you and the person you are hiring are on the same page when it comes to the requirements and deliverables.
Be reachable. Don't go dark for a month and come back expecting to pick up right where you left off.

This is the problem with most they thing they gave the money now its the sole headache of the developer BUt please! its something innovative and custom you are getting designed your replies ASAP are needed to be considered.

All I can tell you is you better research the heck out of this idea, a real product costs 100's of thousands of dollars to develop and more to make and more to market.

Interestingly so are quite a lot of the people who contribute to this forum
Some of us even use this forum to find work. I actually take the ideas of people and turn them into products without the need to spend the about of money you are suggesting. Most of the projects, by nature of the forum they are posted on, tend to be small ideas that need formalizing into something that can prove a concept.
Mandy should not be put off trying to get her idea to market or even just to proof of concept with half million dollar development quotes.
How do you think Arduino came into being in the first place ?
