A question for people who have CNY70 reflection sensor

I'm working on a finger distance sensing for my MIDI controller - the detection distance of 1cm might be enough, although it would be nice if I could stretch it up to 2cm.

I have found online that something similar was done by someone, and they are using QRD1113. However, QRD1113 and QRD1114 seem to be difficult to source in European online stores. QRDs seem to be out of stock, or the store does not have other things I need. It would be quite expensive to order QRDs alone because shipping to my country from major European component stores (Mouser, RSDeliver) costs about 20 EUR. Ouch.

So I was wondering if CNY70 would work instead? Their distance charts seem to be similar, reaching up to 10mm (and possibly a bit further in real life, I hope).

If someone here happens to have a CNY70 or is well-educated in electronics, could you please check if CNY70 is a decent replacement for QRD1113 / QRD1114 or not?

Are there any other common sensors that I'm missing and that would work? What about TCRT5000 ?

But the data sheet says this:

Yeah, it all depends on the fall-off after the peak. As we know, the theory is one thing, but practical use might show different results, that's why it would be great to hear from someone who happens to be working with CNY70 and can check if it is possible to roughly detect finger distance and how far it would work in average lighting conditions (not in direct sunlight).
