A sensor for insulated pipelines

I would like to ask some suggestion for my project.

I need to make a sensor for insulated pipeline to detect the damage pipeline without damaging the insulation(Polystyrene). Inside the pipe flows cold air. So if any damage occurs to the pipeline, there will be a leakage in the insulated pipeline and will release some air on a particular damaged area due to corrosion. Therefore I thought of using TMP006/TMP006B or TMP007 IR temperature sensor to sense if unusual temperature difference is occurs in between the pipeline. The question is does this sensor can sense through the insulation? If yes I need the code for coding. Or is there any other sensor that can sense though the insulation.

Do you have a leaking pipe to test with? Then use a camera that shows temperature in various colors. If you can see the leaking area through the insulation, then your sensor may have a chance. How many sensors do you envision for a pipe?

You can't sense temperature remotely except via heat radiation which is normally only from the
very surface layer. However I suspect if you get such a leak the whole section along which the leaked
air flows will cool, probably spottable with a thermal camera. You can lean a lot with a thermal camera.

Note that metal surfaces dont radiate heat at all well, almost any other material radiates nicely. If the
pipe insulation is clad in aluminium foil it will be harder to see anything. It often is clad this way to
further reduce heat loss.
