AC Motor

Hello,

For AC Motor is there a way to tell if it is rotating CW or CCW without the use of encoder?

Is there a device that can be attached to the AC Motor to allow one type of motion to take place? Even if the user tried to flip the wires, it will only rotate in one direction?

A one-phase AC motor often has a small cap that controls the direction. This is hardware controlled.
The cap helps the motor to get some momentum at startup

There are several type of AC motors. Some can run either way, based on wiring, some will only turn one way. The AC motor driving the tray in the bottom of our microwave oven will turn one way or the other based on the AC cycle when the oven is started. Sometime clockwise, sometimes counter clockwise.

Why do you ask?

Piece of cake!

If you can mount a fan blade on the motor you can use a microswitch with something attached to a lever arm the wind can blow on. Switch is a spdt and will on one side or the other based on which way the wind is blowing.
