I want to test out using one of the LED's that came with my breadboard kit on an arcade controller so I can do some latency tests on different displays. I want the LED to light up every time I press one of the buttons and see action on the screen. Don't need all the buttons to light up the LED, just one of them is enough.
I'm new to electronics so I'm worried I might do damage to my Neo Geo console or controller. Is the +5v provided by the console enough to power the LED? Does the actual console limit the voltage or would I still need add a resister on the breadboard?
My end goal to all this is to eventually be able to use an Xbox controller on a Neo Geo console or Supergun. Right now I'm just trying to get my feet wet with electronics before I go straight to my goal.
TimMJN:
This is not really an Arduino-related question.
However, to answer it. If you are confident the console gives you 5V (measure it!), just add a resistor to limit the current through your led.
Thank you I appreciate your response! The pinouts say +5v but I'll definitely measure it. Once I get this working I want to start reading data from the controller with the Arduino.

Also, don't get your feet wet when working electronics, it's a bad idea
