So, I'm new to the whole programming thing, only been at it a number of weeks now, and picked up an Arduino starter kit. Alot of fun playing with it!
But I've had to come to the forum to ask a question: How would I add Arduino capabilities to my own homebrew programs?
Windows 10, using NotePad++ and MingW environment.
1 Idea I had was to have a simple question, and if the question was correct, flash the green led on the arduino, and if wrong, flash the red led.
However, I've been unable to find how I use Arduino with programs that aren't the IDE.
Any help would be vastly appreciated. As I said above, really only new to this, so hopefully my question wasn't too stupid! lol. Thanks in advanced1

Welcome to the Arduino forums.
Your question is not stupid at all. Just means you have not gone far enough in learning about the software capabilities.
The only way to have your Arduino do something when something happens in your PC is to have the PC program tell the Arduino to do something. The easiest way it to program a serial communication link using the USB connection between the two machines.
That means you will have to modify your PC programs to know how and when to send a message to the PC serial port and you will have to program the Arduino to read that message and determine what action to perform.
Pretty straight forward. There are plenty of examples of the Arduino serial communication programming. The PC side is up to you.
