ADDING TO YOUR LIBRARY

i am always baffled when it says you may have to create a library sub folder when you add to the library ,if there is already a library subfolder there with all the examples why would you need to create another library folder .?? i just add to the existing library folder is this right or wrong ? i can do this with arduino IDE but not the MPIDE , adding to the MPIDE library seems fraught with problems and i cant get it working

as in this from adafruit download page .

Place the Adafruit_RGBLCDShield library folder your /libraries/ folder. You may need to create the libraries subfolder if its your first library. Restart the IDE.

What they are referring to is a \library subfolder in your 'sketches' directory, and not the one in the IDE directory. This way your additional libraries will still be present when you update the IDE in the future.

thanks thats the first time i have seen it explained properly
